“MC Lars is the stage name of Andrew Robert Nielsen, a Stanford- and Oxford-educated rapper credited with pioneering 'lit-hop' — a hip-hop subgenre that draws on classical and American literature, weaving Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, and Herman Melville into what he calls 'post-punk laptop rap.' A foundational figure of the early nerdcore movement alongside MC Frontalot and mc chris, Lars broke through in 2006 with 'Download This Song,' a critique of the music industry's stance on digital downloads that hit #29 on Australia's ARIA chart. He's performed at Carnegie Hall and multiple TEDx events and has toured with everyone from Snoop Dogg and Nas to Simple Plan, Gym Class Heroes, and Insane Clown Posse.”
