About

A Sacramento Blues Society double-bill at the Torch Club pairing two powerhouse frontwomen. Lisa Mann is a two-time Blues Music Award–winning bassist/singer/songwriter from Portland, Oregon — gritty blues, deep soul, and heavy rock-and-roll delivered in a commanding low register. Val Starr & The Blues Rocket are the region's premier all-original blues outfit, led by Val's explosive stage presence and backed by Sacramento's top blues session players across three full-length records (Cool Ride, Blues Away, Woman on a Mission). Both artists will play full sets from 5pm–8pm — an early-evening blues summit.

Blues artists Val Starr and Lisa Mann perform at the Torch Club.

Insider Tips

The Torch is a neighborhood blues bar - come for the music, stay for the family vibe. Marina and Mark know everyone. The sound is intimate and real. Twice-a-day live music means you can catch an early show and still have your evening.

Founded in 1934 directly after the end of Prohibition, the Torch Club is Sacramento's home for live blues. Originally located at 8th & L Street, the venue was purchased by Frank Texeira in 1969. When Frank passed in the early 1980s, his son Ron Texeira Sr. and wife Evelyn took over, relocating to 16th & L Street. With the closing of Sam's Hof Brau in the mid-1980s, the Torch became the new home of live blues at the vision of Ron Texeira Jr. In the early 2000s, Marina Texeira (third generation) moved the club to its current location at 904 15th Street, directly across from the historic Memorial Auditorium. Today, Marina runs the club alongside her partner Mark Mitchell, who has expanded the musical repertoire to include soul, jazz, funk, roots, and R&B. The venue's payphone was featured in Paul Thomas Anderson's award-winning film "One Battle After Another" with Teyana Taylor. The Torch Club is the only venue in Sacramento with live music twice a day, six days a week.
